New, right here

Yeah, I'm new. My name is Steve. I live up in northern MN. My main vehicles are a 1987 Dodge Dakota with a 4cyl 5speed and a 1989 VW Golf with a 1.8 auto. I honestly have no idea what goes on on this site but I saw a couple other people on another forum I post on that were on here too, so I figured why not check it out. How can I get the little thing that tells my average mpg and stuff?

Hey, yep I'm MN and Dodge for life. I'm getting about 20ish mostly around town with some hwy with my truck right now. In the summer on a longer jaunt I can pull about 24 in it. I haven't had too much experience with the Golf's mileage yet because I'm still trying to get the thing in operating condition.

Welcome Steve -

If you are getting the Golf in running condition, then maybe you can swap in a manual tranny.

click on your vehicles name. then at bottom, there should be a box where it says you can copy. then go tnto your control panel and find where you can edit your sig and paste it there.

Welcome to GS Steve. To answer you're question, you probably need something like a "SuperMID", as the ScanGauge works on vehicles '96 or newer (OBD-II).

I think the guy's name is Yoshi, and he custom-builds them. "SVOboy" (Ben) has a website with an install of the device here. If you PM him, or e-mail the link at the bottom of the article, then you could probably get more info on how to order one.

The device gives feedback so you know if how you're driving is efficient and how to wring-out those extra MPGs.

Again, welcome and let us know if you have any other questions -- we're here to help! If you like to modify your ride, there's a Busted and Confirmed Mods section to give some ideas on improving FE.

Have a good one...
