any good driving techniques?

i just moved to a big city from a smaller city, and in the old city (seattle) i got over 40 mpg consistently, going on highways and some city. now, i drive 100% city, and there are stop signs at every block, the traffic lights are not in sync, etc. i have been averaging less than 30 mpg, and sold off my supermid because i dont want to look at that while driving in the city, can be dangerous.

so is there any good techniques that i can use? right now i try to keep the car in motion and not to a full stop on every stoplight, not make a full stop on stop signs (people do that here). I fill up once per month, sometimes even longer. everything is city driving where i live now. i never fo past 2000 rpm, and are always in gears 1-3, since i dont need to go over 30 mph here.

thanks

The past month I have started an all city commute. It is very hard to get decent mpg #s. What I do is:

-try to stay light on the gas to avoid non-needed braking.

-kill the engine on red-lights that I know are long. Once it's green and a few cars in front of me get moving then I restart the engine.

-kill engine on hills if possible.

-try to avoid major backup areas.

edit. last one:

-remember to leave early for work to avoid going faster to try to make up time (this is one I need to work one).

slow in fast out.

err, wait driving to save gas. the best technique is to do whatever you can to avoid using the brakes.
