2004 VW TDI Beetle

Good afternoon. I just found your site, and am rather new at attempting to increase my MPG. I have a 2004 VW TDI with a 5-speed. Normally in town - 15 miles each way to and from work - I get between 42.5 and 46 MPG. It varies according to driving habits. On the open highway at 70, the figure climbs to about 47-48. Odd thing is, I also have a 2005 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe motorcycle whose mileage is, on every level, lower than the VW (even with VW's A/C running). Go figure. Anyway, glad to be here. Maybe you guys can give me some hints.

This is a great site for gaining insight into how to fine tune your driving habits and car to get great mileage. There is lots of good info on a multitude of topics. You may want to go to www.tdiclub.com as well though, as the TDI is quite different from a gasser. There are some techniques that cross over between gassers and diesels, but there are some specifics that you would be better reading up on over at tdiclub.

I'd say that you should balance your time between the two sites.
