Man, this thread has really drifted. OP started it to discuss cars that you would not expect to get good fuel economy but do, not the Volt, Prius, Mirage, Escort, Accent, Golf, Echo, Neon, Insight,...

That shouldn't take too long, in my experience. Of all the great engines GM has made, why did I end up with that awful 3.1? That was a lot of years ago and that car is long gone but I keep being...

I wonder if the Pontiac G6 would hypermile well?...

I wonder if the Pontiac G6 would hypermile well? It doesn't have great EPA ratings -- 22/25/30 for the 4 cylinder and 17/20/26 for the V6 -- but it looks like it must have really low aerodynamic...

The Elantra would be a satisfaction sleeper, not a hypermile sleeper -- the surprising thing about it is how satisfied you are, not how much better than EPA you're getting. Regardless, it's a worthy...

From another thread: Pontiac Sunfire...

2000 Sunfire 2.2l 5MT is EPA rated 21/24/31, so mid-thirties at high speed without any hypermiling effort sounds like a hypermile sleeper to me.

A hypermiler is a person, not a vehicle. You are a hypermiler because you're beating the EPA estimates for your vehicle by a significant amount. If you got in a vehicle that's EPA rated for 18mpg,...

I'm pretty sure that Hyundais are actually decent. I've never owned one but I've been very impressed when test-driving them. Their owners seem quite satisfied, and their reliability is apparently...

Coefficient of drag: 0.32
Curb weight: 3,104 pounds

That's the same drag and ~100 pounds heavier than my little 2008 VW Rabbit. It doesn't have the latest FE technology, but I bet it has much...

I bet it was much lighter than an equivalent sized modern car. My 1980 2 door Lesabre weighs in at 3500 pounds, svelt for a car with a trunk big enough to park a VW in.

The GTI is a good one. A decent percentage of GTI drivers on the golfmkv.com forum report 30 to 40 mpg, and there are a couple reports of 40+ from non-hypermilers. It's got a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder...

Yeah, I was joking about the 4.1. It's got a 4bbl carb, so you can damn well bet on the "different injectors". :D In fact, my car has no computer or o2 sensors, though the manual says that some with...

Hmm...so the GM 3800 v6 is good? The 1980 4.1 in my Buick is an expanded version of that engine.... ;)

People with 4th generation Camaros (1993-2002) in both v6 and v8 commonly report 27mpg. I suspect, owned and driven by an experienced hypermiler, it could reach 35mpg.

The new 5th generation...
