Showed my WAI setup to my mechanic and for once he didn't think I was crazy (our winters are pretty cold). He thinks that I may simply be sucking off all the heat that the relatively low surface area...

Yes, but is that useful from net overall energy savings point of view? Thermodynamic humor, gets me every time! :p

Took it for a questionably necessary errand run and I did gain a few degrees: peak of 141 F with an ambient of 68 F, but that was after a very long hill climb after getting fully up to temperature....

Had to remove a lot more stuff than I expected to gain access, but I managed to slip insulation around the whole duct in a removable way. The close quarters allowed me to just shove it in without...

As expected covering the tiny hole in the resonator had no impact. I'm going to poke around under the fuse box and battery and see if I can slip some insulation in there so that it's either invisible...

The good news is it doesn't melt (I figured it wouldn't be the end of the world so tossed it on there) and it cost me nothing and was easy. The bad news is that insulating the exposed section did...

Switching to a smaller duct might help too, since this one has twice the flow area I need. I could have 40% less exposed surface area if I used one that was just big enough. Have to keep an eye open...

That's possible for the 2' that I added, but the factory ducting would be tough. I could yank the battery and fuse box and replace it, but that makes warranty reversal a problem (I'm sensing a...

Did the thermometer test and with a IAT of 138 F (was warm today) the thermometer a few inches behind the adapter read just over 200 F. So I guess I can rule out causes 1 and 2. The ducting is very...

A much stronger and more thorough blower test came to the same conclusion: only the box with the tiny hole, which I'm assuming is the resonator. So now I need to figure out why the temperatures are...

Went out today and my IAT only hit 136 F max and stayed around 128 F most of the time (lower when I coasted a lot). That's with the vent taped shut. Most annoying! Starting to wonder if there's...

Got the right angle extension added on (surprisingly complicated part) and used furnace cement to seal it all, then installed it. For now I've removed the vent disc and duct taped over the holes....

I considered a bunch of bypass designs, but that one has the advantage of rotating in place so it wouldn't hit anything. I figure I can change it between winter and summer. Much more probably...

Nope, I was right the first time! Geez, I really suck at comparing odd shapes. I double checked the image, then traced the duct onto graph paper and manually counted the squares. They both matched my...

I stand corrected. I must've made a math error when counting the pixels of the picture of that duct, because when I hold it up to the 2x2 square they are not the same! Close, but the original is...

This definitely counts as constructive, so no worries! Not quite the same, but they're both above the minimum. The square end is 2"x2" and the slot end is .5" x 9". I did that intentionally because...

OK, got the adapter made. This gets the air out from the top of the shield, so it stays flat for a couple inches then funnels to a 2" square tube. This can fit inside my 3" duct and has enough flow...
