Another great example of German engineering and efficiency, BMW's 116d Efficient Dynamics managed 103 MPG on a 64 mile trip, and averaged over 90 MPG over the 500 mile route. More details here:
True and thats what fuelly is for, real World every day averages by the public. But it's also good to see what you can get in extreme circumstances if you try. I see them as a target
I recently learnt that one of the techniques car manufacturers use during the lab tests, is that the car's ECU is programmed in such a way that it can detect when it's being tested in a lab! I think thats why if you drive really carefully and slowly, you can trigger this yourself.
I can "cherry-pick" data, too. I drive a school bus, which has an instantaneous MPG readout on its panel. One day, while driving it at 60 mph on the cruise, I drove over a railroad overpass. On the downhill side, that instantaneous readout said the bus was getting 99.9 mpg (probably the highest number the readout could register). So, I can truthfully say I have seen almost 100 mpg from a school bus. Yes, I know its bogus, and the real mpg for the bus is probably around 8 mpg.
Every car since the 80's has had one of those, you'll believe anything if you beleive that. And this isn't just some bogus retarded computer making these figures, it's actual fuel used over actual distances using measuring methods similar to fuelly's, by drivers with skill.
