The issue in the US is that corn receives subsidies, which makes corn syrup cheap, and thus it ends up in everything.

And, when you say "everything" that's EVERYTHING, including the ethanol in our gas.

Subsidies and regulations for fuel ethanol are more focused on non-corn sources. Not saying corn isn't the major source, but it is no longer the dandy.
