My younger brother has one, great car; highly recommend it. The haptic feedback buttons and the illumination of buttons at night is not a problem, the journalists make it a lot bigger deal than what it actually is. That's my 16 years old wiener dog next to it, I took that picture on my 40th birthday (that's a 40th anniversary GTI in Pomelo Yellow).

So glad they have a manual option, enthusiasts cars should always be manual. I just can't get over the price....£40k is silly for a car with that power bracket. I'll be sticking with my GTi, I'm sure with its lighter build, limited slip diff and extra 30 BHP, it will be way ahead of the new Golf.

I follow a driving instructor on YouTube and he has had a Golf GTI for 20 months and it has had an intermittent misfire which VW have not been able to cure. He is now rejecting the vehicle.
Since buying my VAG car I have been following their forums and, despite not having any issues in the 1,000 miles I have done since getting it, I won't have another VAG vehicle.

Forums and face book pages are where people go when they have issues. It would be easy to fall into the trap of believing a certain marque could be unreliable because of all the issue related topics posted, but it's the same the web over. Kinda reminds me of the anti EV brigade spreading the lies about EV fires, trying to make them look like there's a huge chance they'll combust spontaneously. All the compiled data so far shows ICE cars are around 50 times more likely to catch fire than a battery powered vehicle. The internet can be a strange place.

My younger brother who has the '23 GTI had a check engine light come on once, but it was something very minor, I can't remember what it was. My older brother has a '17 Golf R and had to replace the turbo once that was covered under warranty, the car has about 30,000 miles. Both of my brothers only owned VAG products and they plan on staying with that brand, my parents are the same.

Every car manufacturer have issues, no one makes a perfect car.

When I had the Honda Jazz people were asking about minor niggles and servicing and such. On the VAG forums, it seems to be catastrophic engine failures for the most part.

If I had unlimited funds I'd have the top model GTI, Mini, Mustang and maybe one or two others and membership in their owner's clubs to know about and participate in various activities like the parade over the Mackinac Bridge etc.
