Hello from VA!

Hi all! I found fuelly while researching new cars to replace my 16 year old Saturn. Pulled the trigger on a 2018 Kia Niro recently and I'm stoked to have a place to track my data and see how it compares to others. Any tips for getting the most out of driving a hybrid?

Hello and welcome, congrats on the new purchase. The Niro is an interesting car.

Don't get discouraged by low numbers in the beginning. At the very least, the new tires need to wear some to reduce their rolling resistance.

Also, don't expect too much on long highway stints, you'll be generating very little electrical energy when moving at a constant speed. Hills, bends and traffic are great for regen though!

Thanks for the welcome! Curious to know why a couple of you find the Niro "interesting" though.

I think I'm doing pretty well on mpg so far. According to the computer, my drive to the office today came out to 57mpg and my overall is in the 50-52 range at half a tank.

I find it interesting as it's an unusual in-between kind of genre, not quite a SUV, but too big to be a medium sized car, and it's a hybrid too. I hear they are about to launch the EV version, were you not tempted to wait?

It definitely looks like a hatchback/SUV mashup to me, but thankfully manages not to look too Frankenstein-y. Between the price jump and some misconceptions I had about plug-in vehicles, it wasn't really on my radar. I think I might consider a plug-in model for my next vehicle though.
