Honda Civic VX Gas Gauge

First, how come Honda didn't put in a warning light for when the gas gets low in the Honda Civic VX's way back in the day? Just being cheap? I don't see how that could be a big deal. Second, once you hit the Empty line on your VX's gas guage, how far can you go without running out of gas? Anybody out ther that has a VX, please chime in? Curious as to how far I can push my car without getting stranded on the side of the road.
