um, no i'm not using a vacuum gauge like that guy is using. read my question carefully before you speak. plus this guy is driving a totally different car than i am. all cars has different gear ratios. especially his generation vehicle year make comparing to mine. his is a v6 and mine is a 4 cylinder
your engine makes 160 hp near redline but 141 lb/ft of torque at just 4400 rpm . 4400 RPM is your torque peak. That is where your maximum torque is produced. stay below this RPM and you should get slightly better milage.
Every engine is different. I have a '94 Vigor with a torque peak of 170 at around 4500-5000 rpm (can't remember exactly). I shift prior to 2000rpm almost everytime...usually closer to 1700rpm unless I have to accelerate up a hill...for example, pulling a way from a stop sign and immediately on an uphill. Downhill I'll shift before 1500rpm. It's really whatever your car can handle. You just have to learn how low of an rpm your car can handle in each gear without the herky-jerky or the engine sounding like it's straining. Obviously the lower you shift the slower you'll have to accelerate, so it depends what you're willing to deal with also. I've had a few people give me dirty looks for accerating slower than they'd like me to.
I dont think that using the Tiptronic transmission will give you better FE than the 5 speed automatic. Also, you have I-vtec technology, so your FE is better. What MPG do you get on highway (and at which speed)?
since it's an auto, just let it be one. you won't gain more FE than it can get you without going to a different (type of- IE manual) transmission. manual shift mode autos ftl
