Needles, back in Los Angeles. Extreme winds - 60-90mph constant gusts and below freezing temps most of the way back.(racing ahead of an incoming winter storm) Had to drive in 5th gear almost the entire way. Tiny bit of snow over the Cajon Pass. NOTE - the previous fill-up was 91 octane gas just over the border from Needles, in Arizona. In more serene conditions, it would be closer to 34mpg (Los Angeles to Las Vegas was 34mpg, but driving around Vegas hurt it a lot)

Los Angeles to Las Vegas and then down to Needles, CA. MPG would probably be higher, but almost the entire way to Las Vegas it was 70mph and the road to Needles was 75mph (posted, actual speeds were a couple of mph over that, typically).

Lighter traffic this week. Well, other than the massive wad of idiots all deciding to leave on the same two mornings through the same three airports. At least gas prices aren't $4.29 a gallon any more.

Lots of rain this week. It definitely runs a bit better when the air is a bit denser. The downside is that MPG suffers as the traction increases from the wet roads, so it's an actual net loss of 1-2mpg.

Normal heavy traffic. The freeways around here are always being "fixed" at a glacial pace. And yet they never bother to re-do the interchanges where the actual congestion happens.

It seems as if we're into winter blend fuel again. MPG went down about as much as gas prices did, so a wash, more or less. I can't wait until the Metro is completed out to near my work. Putting 4K a year on the car seems a lot better than 20K.

Normal back and forth to work. One of my tires is losing about 2psi a day - I think it's a defect. When it gets lower than about 30psi, it greatly reduces my mpg because I can't hyper-mill as efficiently. The other three don't lose more than 1psi every month or two.

What a difference waxing and properly inflating the tires makes. No change in driving from last week - bad traffic and driving properly aggressive at times to get efficiently in and out of traffic.

Lots of bad traffic in the mornings. It seems as if every day someone is crashing into someone else despite there being three choices - left, right, straight ahead on the freeway.
