Same thing, loads of traffic. The weather got warmer. MPG seems to plummet with winter blend fuels when it gets cold. I think it's no coincidence.

Winter blend fuel. The throttle response is at least 20% less sharp and mpg is way down. The car just plain hates oxygenated and ethanol blended gas.

Normal Driving. Not even trying to save any gas this time. I think I'm just not going to sweat the 2mpg as fun > boring. Note - regular gas.

I got tired of hypermilling after getting caught in a massive traffic jam one morning, so I drove it the rest of the time like gas didn't matter. Note - winter blend/oxygenated gas.

Got myself on some non-ethanol blend gas and used some tricks (shifting into neutral at stops and so on), plus a different route home from work to get better gas mileage. Note - this is entirely rush hour traffic in Los Angeles. 26 MPG combined in such conditions is amazing, and only about 5-6 mpg worse than a tiny econobox. The car seems to get better as it breaks in.

Back and forth to work. At least the sound system is good on this car - it helps drown out the traffic. Winter fuel does have a significant impact.

The local stations switched to their ethanol (winter) blend. I can feel that it has a lot less torque and while it revs quickly, it isn't making nearly as much power. Oh, and they raised the prices as usual despite it being cheaper to use some ethanol rather than 100% gasoline.

More rush hour traffic. I use the car purely for commuting. 35 miles each way. One part of the trip is roughly 5 miles of mountain roads. Another is roughly 10 miles of traffic jams. So roughly 30 miles of terrible creeping along mpg mixed with 40 miles of coasting along each day.

Rush hour traffic in Los Angeles. NOTE - Keeping the engine at ~2K rpm so the VVT kicks in and driving it normally (drive as if it was a 5 speed). I suspect that I have to use less gas to deal with small elevation changes than trying to get it going from 1500rpm and lugging the engine. Much more fun to drive this way.
