Is the egr system needed?

Is the egr system a must have for the vx engine? I have started a swap, currently running o.k. but do not have the egr system installed. Is this necessary for any mpg gains?

You want the egr system because the ECU has the maps for the EGR and when you remove it, it very well could hurt the mileage. EGR isn't all bad and in the case of fuel economy, it's a good thing.
