More abusive riding. Hwy/canyon. The poor BMW rider today. It was impressive how much time we could put on him from short spurts through canyons. The other two liter bike riders have since changed gearing lower and are tinkering with their PCs. Whatever they're doing, they aren't getting away. And fueling up twice as often as my 9R frustrates them to no end.

Canyons and hwy. Outran the Gixxr 1000 I was with by over 80 miles. Hard to tell, b/c when I left him, he was frantically pointing at his flashing low fuel warning light. After lunch, we fueled up at the same station and I ended up having over 2 gallons remaining at the end of the day.

:) :) Now I know why some people only get 30 MPG. What a pace! Three of us pulled out a lead and left the group for dead. My MPG was bad, but I still only fueled up twice today with plenty to spare at each. The others fueled three times and were near on fumes.

Hwy, canyons and passing. Brakes are dragging again, except the other side this time. Other fork boot replaced. It seems the pads need to bed in again. Only getting about 1/2 turn from the front tire. Post ride and cleaning I'm getting about 3. So they just need to work themselves in again. Rear tire is about shot.

Highway & Canyons today. I wish the touring bikes could keep up with my sportbike, but then the sportbikes can't keep up with my sportbike! The rider was speechless, asking me to stop twice to be sure I wasn't running out of gas. I told him, No, I'm good. We stopped a third time so we could make a detour to fill him up. My old 5g carb'ed bike would have outdistanced his 5.8g EFI bike by over 40 miles. 91 Octane today. Superstition.

Feb 14 2010

I have to attribute the drop in MPG to either the Winter blend or the fact that my front brakes are dragging quite hard. One of the fork seals leaked fork oil onto the brake caliper and caused some damage. I'm addressing the dragging issue and should have her back in top form soon. Fuel is 87 octane. Jet needle back to raised position. Supertrapp at 8 discs.

Funny ride today. My buddy's Concours 14 ran out of gas trying to keep up with me. Watching him disappear in my mirrors was humorous, up until I had to help him push his bike a few hundred yards to a gas station.

Returned the jet needle to stock position for some winter riding, since it's raised to add torque and keep engine temps normal during summer riding. Made two amazing distance runs: 1) 218.9 to reserve 2) 221.5 to reserve (this run resulted in a 55.2). Fueled up at 249.5 with fuel to spare. She's not as torquey for sure. Supertrapp has 8 discs

THE FREE LUNCH. Adjusted the pilot air screws at 1 1/2 turns, bumped the jet needle up 0.8mm, and the mains to 158/160. Supertrapp at 9 of 12 diffuser discs. She hit reserve at 213.4 miles, which is approximately 4 gallons of 5 total capacity. Power is exceptional and reminds me of the torquey setting I had in 2008, except that one only returned 45 MPG, not 53 MPG.

Jul 4 2009

Experimented with pilot air screws at 2 full turns, like many Europeans run on their ZX-9s. MPG dropped 15% from the 1 5/8 setting. Stunned at how poor the fuel economy got while not observing any power increase. It's as though I was just dumping fuel in without reaping any power reward. This setting sucks.
